The camp field forms part of the 15 acre site, half of which is managed on a conservation basis – this comprises a species-rich wetland meadow and several acres of bog willow ‘wilderness’ which also contains an amazing 2 acre hidden lake surrounded by beautiful reed beds. The land is bordered by the river Seiont – one of the areas principle trout and salmon rivers.
There is an abundance of riches in this area. Every day you can see kingfishers, spotted woodpeckers, little grebes, coots, buzzards, peregrines, ravens. The scrubby willow is a great place to watch summer migrants such as warblers and flycatchers. The abundance of flowering plants and grass species on the meadow attract a profusion of insect species – in spring and summer you can walk through swarms of electric-blue damselflies. We also have resident adders in this field.
We have a couple of Kerry cows that graze the land, and various friends graze their horses on the big field next to the campsite.
